Privacy & how it works
TeslaDrop is a tiny web app: scan a QR in the car, drop photos, videos, links, notes, audio, or PDFs from your phone, and they show up on the Tesla screen. No account. Add to Home Screen on your phone to reopen the last drop.
How it works
- 1. Open tesladrop.app in the Tesla browser. A private screen is created and a QR appears. The car remembers this screen on this device.
- 2. Scan with your phone. Anyone in the car can scan and send. Several phones can drop to the same screen.
- 3. It appears immediately. The Tesla page updates by itself. No refresh. You can keep sending.
- 4. Videos play in Park. Tesla only allows video playback while the car is parked.
Coming back to your drop
The Tesla browser has no tabs. If you open a dropped link, use the browser Back control to return to TeslaDrop — your screen stays in the address bar and on this device. On your phone, TeslaDrop can offer to continue the last live drop instead of starting over.
What we store
- No names, emails, Tesla accounts, or phone numbers.
- Each screen gets a random code. Files and links are attached to that code only.
- This device may keep that code in local storage so you can reopen the same screen. It never leaves the browser.
- Anyone who has the QR (or the drop link) can send to that screen until it expires.
- Files are size-capped (25 MB photos/PDFs, 30 MB audio, 100 MB videos) and each screen has a 400 MB total limit, so a drop can’t fill storage.
How long it stays
Drops are temporary. Screens expire after 24 hours, then they can no longer be opened or receive files. Expired screens are deleted automatically. Do not send anything you would not want a passenger to see, and do not send secrets — TeslaDrop is built for casual sharing in the car, not for confidential files.
